Use more local foods in menu items, create all local meals during challenge
Much thanks to Keith for coordinating this area.  It'd be great to get some volunteers to work with specific restaurants.  Do you want  your favorite restaurant to carry more local foods?
Food Retailers
Better label local foods, carry more local foods
Need a coordinator and more volunteers to work with specific food retailers.
Sarah and Sheryl have volunteered to help with Price Chopper and City Market.
Outreach
Outreach to other ther organizations that would support local foods such as local motion, Burlington community gardens, Vermont refugee resettlement program.
Much thanks to Krista and Keri for leading up this effort.
Public Education
Table events, develop educational material - we could definitely use a coordinator here.  We have much interest from UVM students and others to help educate folks about local foods, we just need to provide some guidance and organization.
Website Enhancement and Maintenance.  Thanks to Eric for coording this effort and for Dave for offering his technical expertise.
Eat Local Challenge Operations
Helping organizing the Big Events and the details of the Summer Challenge.  We'd love someone to take out the details of the one month summer 2007 challenge (it will be August or September 2007).

Besides getting involved with the organization, there are things you can do everyday to help support the local food movement.

1.  Host a local foods potluck or serve a local meal with your friends, neighbors, or co-workers.

2.  Talk with your local food retailer to encourage them to label local foods and carry more local food products.

3.  Coordinate a bulk order of some of the harder to get local foods with your friends and neighbors.  Let us know if you need to know where to look.  Better yet, try it out yourself and let us know what you find!

4.  Write a letter to the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, State Senators, and State Representatives discussing the issues around local foods and why the state should support more local food production.  The Mad River Valley Localvores wrote a very detailed letter - copy this or extract the parts that mean the most to you.  Print it out and have your friends sign it.

5.  Please mention your preference for local foods when you dine out.  Frequent those restaurants that carry local food often. Take the Vermont Fresh Network Dining Challenge.

6.  Organize an event for the Champlain Valley Localvores - we'll post details on this website.

7.  Grow your own food and share with neighbors and friends.

Some of our friends have put together some literature that will help spread the word - they are dated for the August 2006 challenge.  Updated versions coming this fall or winter.  Print out these posters or brochures, give them to friends and family, and get people talking.  You'll need adobe acrobat to view or print these files.
