Restaurant Input -

Thanks for getting involved.  We are a group of consumers in the Champlain Valley that are taking a challenge to eat only locally grown and produced food in September.  The key is grown AND produced within Vermont or a 100 mile radius.  So bread made from flour grown in the Midwest doesn't count.  But bread made from Gleason Grains of Bridgeport VT does.

We are looking for restaurants to provide local meals to our members during the September challenge.  We will advertise your restaurant to our members and since we are a volunteer organization, no fee is required of you.  All we ask is that you commit to providing at least one locally based meal.  In 2007, our first challenge year, we had about 150 people eating 100% locally for the entire month; this year we are targeting 1000 people at various levels.

Since some restaurants have difficulty offering a 100% local meal, we have developed a rating system to help restaurants and customers quantify some common exceptions.  In all cases we are expecting produce, meats, and dairy to be 100% local.

100% local except for non-local salt, pepper, leavening agents and other spices.

Same as 3 carrots with the added exceptions of non-local cooking oils, vinegars and stock

Same as 2 carrots with the added exceptions of sugar, non-local grains, and non-local tomato products

For more information on sources of Vermont foods contact Vermont Fresh Network or see our list of local sources.  And by all means, browse our website.  Most people taking the challenge have signed up to eat meals at the three carrot level.  If you can offer a meal at that level, please do.

Send us an email at restaurant@eatlocalvt.org with either questions or, if you want to get listed on the web site, the following information:

  • Name of Restaurant, phone #, location
  • What type of meal you plan to offer (pizza, dinner special, buffet items)
  • How high of an EatLoaclVT rating, 1, 2, or 3 carrots.
  • When the menu item will be available (all of September or a specific week)
  • Which meals you will offer (breakfast, lunch or dinner)
  • If you have a web site and want to put more information on it, we'll put in a link

We're just a group of volunteers, so please give us a few days to add your item to our list.  If you haven't heard anything from us in a week, feel free to e-mail us again.

Thanks Again!
